and to take it to this thread, my report on the area set for logging, posted first last August.
After the gathering Randerella and I hiked to the top of the ridge above the spring to see the condition of the forest, and if there has been any signs of activities. No new markings on or around the few old growth trees hugging the ridge line. The winter snow storm brought down a lot of trees over the old fire roads ringing the top of the ridge. Some clearing had been done probably a few months back on BLM road # 33-6-31, someone had cleared trees that had fallen across the road using a hand-ax. A blue and black boundary marking tape(?) was where I saw it when I last hiked this route five years back. The road along the top of the ridge is eroding into disrepair, very little sign of traffic. At a viewpoint where the whole sanctuary is visible we found a fresh beer can.
There is a huge fuel load for any fire up to and all along the top of the ridge. During the last logging there decades past, madrone and other trees were killed by girding them with chainsaws to clear room for getting at the money trees. Other dead limbs and slash have also accumulated. The fire roads are blocked by downed trees in areas.
I think the last time anyone marked out the boundaries of our sanctuary was back in the late 1980's, by Gary Compton.(?)
We should organize a party to mark off the boundaries of our land, as these boundaries could be changed without our knowledge.
