Gathering Krunch

topic posted Fri, May 16, 2008 - 10:37 AM by  Lucy
Is there any way I can petition for the "Spiritual Gathering for Radical Faeries( w/penises)" to be at least a full week after "The Dance ov All Nations" next year.
Once again it is back to back with this ceremony and ov all times we should have a bit more space between these gatherings. I have mentioned it to several faeries and WC caretakers last year and am at a loss on how to make this shift.
Any Ideas?
Thanks Lucy Fur

June at Wolf Creek is much in demand for gatherings due to the relatively temperate weather compared to July and August. Five days seems to me like a reasonable amount of time between gatherings.

I think the way to actually effect a change would be to ask a Nomenus member to make a proposal to COTL (the Committee on the Land).

I really, really, really hope I am misinterpreting things . . . and if I am, I sincerely apologize.

However, this request sounds very much like: "Would you please ONLY enter through the back door and ONLY sit in the back of the bus: we don't want *your kind* sitting with the rest of us. We pray for the day you will completely disappear".

Ouch, Teddy. I'm sorry that story got activated for you -- it sounds very painful. But I sincerely doubt that Lucy was thinking anything of the kind.

Especially since she and other folks who don't identify as gay males will need to leave the land for the SGRF. In fact, at first I thought you were running the story in the other direction -- with non-gay men being treated as second-class citizens.

Either way, these topics are tender enough without putting our painful stories in each others' mouths.

My love to you, and to the hurt place in your heart that those words come from.

    * Ask your witchdoctor if posting on the Wolf Creek diaTribe is right for you.

    * Don't expect that others will show you the same kind of respect and consideration you showed in making your request.

    * Write a brief request articulating why it's a good idea to have at least a week between these events and submit it to the RadDish for publication.

    * Find out who's going to be at the Winter Great Circle and ask one of them to bring it up when scheduling gatherings is discussed.

It is so tricky scheduling sacred spaces in time

much less getting the energies back to back

    or front to front.

Trust the portals. Trust the segways.

Honor self. Honor other. Honor process.

Blessings to all the qweens who gather

    when and how they will

    in the seasons ahead.

    Lucy,
Thank you so much for the tone that you set, in your post. Thank you for keeping it respectful.

As one of the dancers at DAP, I wanted to provide the space for other dancers to experience the "Four-Day Window." That is, the dance rev's up four days before the official Dance, and unwinds the four days after the Dance...So, for me, there's a twelve-day window, that I wanted to make available to ALL dancers at the WC Dance. To that end, we're starting the SGRF as late as possible, in such a tiny little window.

For me, Thursday night, after the dance, has become an opportunity to sing my prayers, feed the tree, and ground the energies that the Dance raises for me. It's great closure for folks living in community, with THAT tree. And, my intention is to make sure that night is open to any remaining dancers that feel the call to participate...

The SGRF is the only official gathering that Nomenus (the corporation that owns the land)sponsors. Many folks have realized, by now, that the SGRF has moved out of July/August, and into June. Our intention was to capitalize on the Summer solstice as a most seasonally appropriate time for adoration of the "Phallus at full glory." Suddenly, that gathering gets fires at night, water in the creek, a fresh pole to dance sacred around, and something besides muggy weather. Last year, the solstice was just a week from the last Sunday in June (heretofore referred to as "Pride"), so we got lots of feedback about spacing it further from Pride; and, the calendar played out to our favor. Also, because the land is renewed, it offers opportunities for more healing of men who love men (or, whatever the other girly men wish to be called).

In years past, people have used the "faggot space" clause to create a larger block of time of "female-less" space around the SGRF. I don't buy into that strategy, and was thrilled to realize that tactic wouldn't be available, this year. I apologize that you are feeling crunched (I think you know how often I've held you up as a wonderful example of what we lose when we go gender-specific). I would happily help you make arrangements to stay "in the neighborhood" Friday the 13th, or longer...

To close (and this is to the greater community more than to you), it becomes very difficult to consider everyone's best interest, the Land calendar, facilites maintenance, gatherings, and personal power issues at a meeting that has the same six or eight people, twice a year, every year. This organization was designed to be guided by a sea of voices, not the same ten or less people that've shown up to the last (easily) four or (more likely) seven Great Circles. And, I really am not talking to you, when I say that. Thanks for letting me get that part out.

It sounds like we are all opening to the possibilty of another answer; and, I'm open and available, if any one has any ideas...
